I make no attempt to hide the fact I think the POLICE, and not security, should be protecting our communities. This is a line that is being crossed that WILL lead to a deadly mishap.
The guards in the video (and yes, they are in the US) look like cops and are equipped likes cops. Wow, 40 hours of training. No way in hell I would want them in my community!!
If police departments are spread that thin then it is time to restructure policing to make it affordable and to place fully trained officers out in the community. Use more civilian staff at police stations to take reports and take care or other non enforcement duties.

You are only taking the negative from the video. As stated a lot are ex police and have much more then 40 hours training. With proper and ongoing training private security can be an effective addition to a communities security.

I believe you are correct, and with some guards, different levels of training can be had. In a limited capacity, within the law, I think guards can help police, reporting to the cops, where violators are moving or lurking, for example.
